The term originally emerged from a collective movement to fight discrimination against sexual orientation and gender identity. The acronym LGBTQIA, with the addition of further letters, comes from English and stands for 'Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual'.
